Description
Overview
Mateo is a table by Vincent Van Duysen, headed 2023 on Molteni&C's datasheet. The page describes a central pedestal that is cylindrical and conical in shape and vertically grooved at its base, standing on a gently flaring curved foot, and offers it as a round and an oval version. The page lists round dining tops of 140 to 200 cm in diameter and oval tops of 220 and 250 cm, and says new sizes of 300, 350 and 400 cm have been added.

Construction
Inside the pedestal is a frame reinforced by a lacquered metal rod, which the page says gives complete stability. The sheet lists a moulded shell for the base in veneered fibreboard, painted polyurethane or polyurethane covered with steel sheet, and a top of veneered or painted fibreboard or of marble.
Specifications
- MTO1, oval dining table: 220 cm wide, 125 cm deep, 74 cm on the vertical dimension line (not labelled on the drawing), base Ø 62 cm
Story
A pedestal with roots
On the datasheet Van Duysen says of the central pedestal: "In constructing the central pedestal, I drew inspiration from the solidity of a company and its 90-year history—deeply anchored roots upon which the leap into the future rests." The page links the internal frame to his architectural background. He has been Creative Director of Molteni&C since 2016.
New options from 2024
The datasheet says the table "introduces fresh possibilities in 2024": new compositional options, a version with two bases and a marble oval top in 300, 350 and 400 cm, and a polished steel finish for the conical base alongside coffee oak, sunrise oak, glossy lacquers and burnished metal.
