Leaning shelf
MATE is a solid-wood shelf designed by Florian Asche. Its tall backboard leans against the wall, while an inset eyelet provides a fixing point.
Construction
Six shelves are joined to the backboard with classic dovetail joints. The structure uses 30 mm thick solid wood and arrives as one assembled piece. Buyers can choose European oak or European walnut, each with an oiled finish.
Dimensions
The official product page lists 300 × 240 × 2200 mm (length × depth × height).
Story
A casual wall-leaning form
Florian Asche designed MATE in 1996 as a wall-leaning shelf. e15 describes the shelf as leaning against the wall and expressing a casual approach.
Traditional joint, modern shelving
The product's identity comes from fastening six shelves to one backboard with dovetail joints. e15 presents that familiar woodworking detail as the source of the unit's stability and its modern shelving solution.
