Description
Overview
Masters is a chair designed by Philippe Starck with Eugeni Quitllet for Kartell, dated 2010 on the Kartell data sheet. Kartell's product page calls it a clear tribute to three symbol-chairs: the silhouettes of Arne Jacobsen's "Serie 7", Eero Saarinen's "Tulip Armchair" and Charles Eames' "Eiffel Chair" entwine in a sinuous hybrid. The page adds that Masters is light and practical and can also be used outdoors.
Construction
The data sheet lists the material as recycled thermoplastic technopolymer with mineral filler and soft-touch treatment. Kartell's material leaflet explains that the recycled content comes from pure, uncontaminated scrap from furnishing, automotive, electrical appliance and packaging production. The model is covered by a Community design registration.

Story
Three chairs, one outline
Kartell presents Masters as a reading of three icons by Starck "reworked and reinterpreted by Starck’s creative genius". Jacobsen's Serie 7, Saarinen's Tulip Armchair and the Eames Eiffel Chair are not copied one by one: their lines are woven into a single looping back and arm shape.

Awards on the data sheet
The Kartell data sheet heads the model "MASTERS 2010" and prints two awards beside the title: Good Design Award 2010 and a Red Dot design award, winner 2013. The product page lists the credit as "Philippe Starck con Eugeni Quitllet".
