Mart Armchair

Overview

Mart is an armchair line by Antonio Citterio, dated 2003: a comfortable hollow shape in two sizes on a series of bases, built on thermoformed leather over a glass fibre shell.

Construction

• Internal frame: glass fibre shell, cold-shaped flexible polyurethane foam
• Cross-shaped swivel base: steel laminate and aluminium extrusions
• Support frame (MPRN_1, MPRI_1): tubular steel and steel profiles
• Swivel base (MPGL, MPGIL): steel profiles, solid wood
• Headrest (MPRP): polyester fibre in cotton, anodised aluminium and steel counterweight
• Cover: thick leather or leather in limited categories, or fabric in limited categories

• MPGL small armchair on four-leg swivel base: W 79 × D 79 × H 68 cm

Leather from the footwear workshop

Mart came out of experiments with thermoformed leather. B&B Italia's research and development centre looked to the footwear sector for information, and a plastic shell placed in a mould for the cold foaming of polyurethane produces the seat's elasticity and comfort.

One shell, several bases

The line has a smaller and a wider shell, set on swivel bases with a disk or a cross, or on a structure that lets the large shell take two positions with a simple manual movement. B&B Italia calls Mart a product with a strong personality whose silhouette conveys the idea of relaxation.
