Overview
Maralunga 50 is Cassina's exclusive red Nubuck leather edition of the Maralunga sofa that Vico Magistretti designed in 1973; the edition was produced in 2023. It comes in two-seat and three-seat versions and an armchair.
Construction
- Frame: tubular steel with elastic webbing.
- Padding: variable-density polyurethane foam; seat cushions in polyurethane foam and polyester wadding.
- Upholstery: Nubuck leather, colour Maralunga 50 (red).
- Base: painted black.
- Backrest: headrest that raises or lowers the backrest through a bicycle-chain mechanism, reinforced for 7 degrees more inclination.

- 300 x 105 x 100 cm for the three-seat sofa 675 X3/Y3 (axes not labelled on the drawing).
Story
A red edition of the 1973 sofa
Cassina made Maralunga 50 to mark Vico Magistretti's entry into its I Maestri collection. It is an exclusive edition faithful to the original model, in a Nubuck leather colour named Maralunga 50.
Red and the designer
The colour comes from Magistretti himself: red was a constant in his life and career, from the socks he wore regularly, and became a symbol of his nonconformity in the world of design.
