Description

Overview

Living Box is a low, self-standing storage unit by Vincent Van Duysen, offered in four widths of 230, 280, 330 and 380 cm. Molteni&C's page says it takes the grandeur of buildings, concert halls and monumental spaces and turns it into a sculptural domestic object.

Construction

The box is an adjustable floor-standing frame of painted tubular metal, to which chipboard panels clad in oak or eucalyptus veneer are fixed for the sides, back and base. The top has a frame of painted extruded and die-cast aluminium with an upper insert in marble or veneered chipboard, and the sliding Stripe doors have a wood-veneered aluminium frame, a solid Ayous grid and 4 mm glass.

Story

A cave inside a box

The page describes the form as low and expansive, with a pewter or iris frame that looks slender from above and substantial from the front. Inside, it says, the unit invites discovery like a magical cave: curved corner covers and a flexible arrangement of drawers leave room to show art or personal items while keeping the lines clean.

Stripe doors

The 2022 datasheet presents sliding Stripe doors as a new proposal that expands the offering of a highly successful product. They are the doors already used in Molteni&C's Kitchen Dada Engineered kitchens, with a wood frame and central glass, placed in the heart of a composition to make private spaces, while the precious boxes already on offer stay at both ends.
