Overview
The Knit Coat Rack is a simple, iconic coat rack with a distinctive sculptural design. HAY describes it as an extension of its wardrobe and garment hanging options, made for hallways, bedrooms and other private or public areas.
Construction
Three powder lacquered steel pipes are interconnected in a three-dimensional way and are 'knitted' together so that they support each other and form the strength of the body. The finish is high gloss, and the flat-packed design is easy to assemble.
Specifications
- Black variant: H161.5 × W49.5 × L50.5 cm
Story
Inspired by bending and knitting
HAY states that Knit takes its cue from the tactile experience of touching materials and the experimental processes of bending and knitting ropes and metal rods. The three pipes are knitted together so that each supports the others.
Designed by Jin Kuramoto
Jin Kuramoto, a Japanese designer who founded JIN KURAMOTO STUDIO INC. in 2008, designed Knit for HAY. His studio's own project page dates the piece to 2021 and lists it in the coat rack category.
