Traditional reference, contemporary process
Kata is Altherr Désile Park's lounge chair for Arper, inspired by handmade wood-and-woven-straw chairs. A solid-wood frame supports a steel-framed shell formed in a product-specific 3D knit.
Indoor and outdoor variants
Article 5600 uses solid oak with a micro-padded graphic knit. Article 5603 uses solid black locust with a striped knit suitable for outdoor use. Both knits use recycled polyester fibre. The official drawing for article 5600 labels overall dimensions of 77.5 × 76 × 77.5 cm.
Circular construction
Arper documents FSC-certified wood, low-waste knitting and easy disassembly. Optional back and seat cushions expand the chair's comfort and finish choices.
Story
Artisan form through soft technology
Kata begins with the familiar structure of wooden chairs with woven seats. Arper recasts that reference through precise woodwork and a knitted shell, setting material presence against a light silhouette.
Waste-conscious upholstery
The 3D fabric is shaped specifically for the chair, reducing conventional upholstery waste. Its post-consumer polyester yarn is made from recycled plastic bottles; Arper states that roughly one kilogram of waste, about 48 half bottles, produces one kilogram of yarn.
A broader family
The collection also includes chair versions in exposed wood or upholstery, with and without arms. Arper records the original Kata design in 2021 and a collection extension in 2024.
