Description
Overview
Didier Gomez shaped Ipanema as a three-place curved settee. Its organic outline refers to Roberto Burle Marx's patterned Ipanema promenade and to the free curves associated with Oscar Niemeyer's architecture.
Construction
A mechanically welded tubular framework shapes the arms and back, with Bultex cushioning beneath 110 g/m² polyester quilting. The seat is largely multi-ply, with polyether foam and quilting, and rests on concealed matt-black cylindrical feet.
Dimensions
Overall width is 2,300 mm and depth is 1,030 mm; the highest point reaches 840 mm. Seat height is 435 mm and weight is 95.5 kg.
Story
A curved plan
Ipanema develops as an asymmetrical, bean-like plan rather than a straight sofa. Didier Gomez connects its outline to the ceramic promenade of Ipanema and to Oscar Niemeyer's pools and the roof of Casa das Canoas.
Layered comfort
Elastic webbing supports high-resilience Bultex foam in the seat. Loose cushions add feather fillings, while the concealed 30 mm-high feet keep the upholstered volume close to the floor.
