Description

Overview

Infinity is Antonio Citterio’s 2004 modular shelving system for Flexform. Stackable metal containers allow straight or curved compositions with alternating open and closed spaces.

Construction

Modules are epoxy-powder-coated inside and outside, then joined by concealed satin-finish steel connector screws. Tops combine coated metal with back-painted glass; bases are chrome metal.

Specifications

The representative straight article 012D34, an H.40 unit, measures 120 × 40 × 40 cm. It is the largest single straight unit in the technical drawings, not the size of a complete composition.

Story

Design by subtraction

Flexform frames Infinity around subtraction: reducing the container so that its contents remain visually prominent. Repetition and voids create the system’s pattern without prescribing one fixed elevation. The contents therefore participate in the composition.

Reconfigurable compositions

Straight bases, curved elements, open units and cover pieces can be combined into many layouts. Optional Box containers add removable concealed storage while preserving the grid.
