Story

Named after Hill House

Cassina's sheet says the chair was originally a furnishing accessory for one of Mackintosh's major design projects, Hill House in Helensburgh, near Glasgow, Scotland, and that it takes its name from the house.

A chair read as a treatise on space

The sheet notes that many critics see the piece as not only a chair but a treatise on the way space can be articulated. Cassina re-issued it with the furniture makers of Meda, in black-stained ashwood with a velvet seat cushion.
