Harry

Overview

Harry (1995, Antonio Citterio) is, in B&B Italia's description, a classic yet contemporary sofa with an apparently simple form. It comes in three sizes, as a two-seater and a three-seater, and its distinctive trait is the aluminium feet.

Construction

• Core: steel tubes and profiles, with a polyester-fibre cover over cold-shaped flexible polyurethane foam
• Seat cushion: sterilized down with shaped polyurethane in different densities, cotton cover
• Back cushion: shaped polyurethane, sterilized down and polyester fibre, cotton cover
• Feet: aluminium sheet and extrusions; the front feet stand 11 cm (4 3/8 in) and the rear feet 7.5 cm (3 in) above the floor
• Cover: fabric or leather

One detail changed

Citterio tells the story of Harry as a series of tradition-bound sofas that lacked something. In his account the answer was a single modified detail, the aluminium foot, which gave the product a sense of lightness and moved it from tradition towards a modern product.

Named after Bertoia

Harry takes its name from Harry Bertoia, one of the great masters of design, in line with Citterio's habit of naming his creations after famous designers of the past. The concept text says the sofa gives value to an apparently simple form while calling attention to the furniture foot.
