Description
Overview
Grand Relax is a reclining swivel lounge chair designed by Antonio Citterio in 2019. Its concealed mechanism moves the seat and back independently in synchronised motion.
Construction
- Moulded polyurethane body on a plastic frame
- Loose chamber cushions with foam, fibre, feather and down fillings
- Four-star die-cast aluminium swivel base
- Lower outer back covered in embossed split leather
Specifications
- 690 × 810 × 1010 mm
- 415 mm seat height for the US configuration
Story
Movement controlled by the sitter
The mechanism absorbs body weight as the chair reclines. A rotary control alters resistance, and the back may be locked at the chosen angle while the base continues to swivel.
Deliberately relaxed cushions
Citterio developed the chair around soft cushioning. Vitra notes that the loose cushions acquire individual creasing, especially when covered in leather, rather than holding a rigid outline.
