Description
Overview
The Form Chair is a chair by Simon Legald for Normann Copenhagen. Normann Copenhagen's Form fact sheet lists 2014 as the design year. Normann Copenhagen says the aim was a shell chair with a more unified look that would stand as one cohesive unit. A molded plastic seat is joined to a frame of oak, walnut or steel with a cup system developed for the chair, so the legs appear almost as if they are growing out of the shell. The version described here is the Form Chair Oak.
Construction
The shell is polypropylene, molded in one single injection, and Normann Copenhagen says each shell goes through an extra finishing phase that removes every visible trace of where the plastic was injected. The parts of the wooden bases are treated with two coats of clear varnish before they are mounted, and the bases are assembled and sanded by hand after cutting. The molded connectors match the legs in color. The chair comes with PE/POM/PP glides, and felt glides can be bought separately.

Story
One cohesive unit
Normann Copenhagen's page says that Simon Legald created the Form Chair with the mission of making a shell chair with a more unified look. To reach it, a new solution for gathering seat and legs was developed: the molded plastic seat and the oak, walnut or steel frame are integrated with a cup system.
Bases that can change
The Form fact sheet says the connectors developed for the series make it possible to adapt the chair to various kinds of leg types, and the production-visit article says the connection principle lets different bases be mounted in the same holes.
