Description

Overview

First is a stacking chair designed by Stefano Giovannoni for Magis in 2007, suitable for outdoor use. It comes after Air-Chair, the first seat to use air-moulding technology, and takes the technology further: the empty frame is used for the wider and more complex volumes of the entire seat and back, not only for small tubular cross-sections.

Construction

The chair is made in air-moulded polypropylene with glass fibre added. This gives a more organic, three-dimensional form without the visible tubular structures seen in other chairs, and the chairs stack up to 10 pieces. It is offered in six colours.

Specifications

50 x 52 x 77.5 cm (W x D x H, SD800), six colours.

Story

The chair that gave First its name

Air-Chair was the first seat to use air-moulding. First follows it and pushes the same technology into new territory, which is where its name comes from. Where air-moulding had been used for volumes with a small tubular cross-section, First applies the empty frame to the whole of the seat and back.

A sleek design for outdoors

The result is an organic, three-dimensional form with no visible tubular structures. The sleek and delicate design is well suited also for outdoors, and the polypropylene with glass fibre added is suitable for outdoor use. Stefano Giovannoni designed the chair in 2007.
