Description

Overview

The Enfold Sideboard by Thomas Bentzen for Muuto combines industrial materiality with residential references for a new perspective on modern storage. Steel gently enfolds its top and bottom in solid oak, and the ridged steel doors add a vibrantly modern expression. The 100 x 45 version in Deep Red / Oak (ENSBD100A05) is 84.5 cm high.

Construction

The body, shelves and sliding doors are bent steel. The top and base are solid oak, and the sideboard stands on adjustable feet. The shelves are adjustable and the cabinet has discreet cable outlets.

Story

From a workshop table to a sideboard

Thomas Bentzen says the first ideas came from his own workshop, where he has a table with a steel base and a solid oak top. He wanted to translate that materiality into a sideboard: a wooden surface outlined by metal, with space on top to place things and shelves for ordinary storage that can be set at three different levels.

Folded steel and oak as complementing contrasts

Bentzen has long been drawn to folded metal and the idea of turning a flat sheet of steel into something more by changing its form. He punched and bent the sliding metal doors into a ridged look, and sets the warm, friendly solid oak against the cold metal so the two become complementing contrasts. The structure of bent, folded and punched steel could only be developed on-site in the factory.
