Overview
Elan 23 is the new version of the sofa Jasper Morrison designed for Cappellini. Cappellini describes it as combining essential lines, rigorous forms and superior comfort, and as a contemporary design classic. The sled base of the original version is replaced here by a floor-standing plinth, which gives the sofa a more solid and sculptural presence while keeping lightness and elegance. The product sheet describes it as a modular seating system.
Construction
The structure combines wood-particle panels, solid wood and fir plywood with a metal frame, on elastic belts. The padding is multi-density polyurethane foam, and the cushions are multi-density polyurethane foam and fibre. The plinth base is medium-density wooden panels with a black laminate finish, and the feet are adjustable black plastic. The cover is removable, in fabric or leather, with tone-on-tone stitching.

Story
From sled base to plinth
Elan 23 is presented as the new version of the iconic sofa designed by Jasper Morrison for Cappellini. In it the sled base of the original version gives way to a floor-standing plinth. Cappellini adds that its compact dimensions suit residential spaces as well as lounges and contract areas.
Jasper Morrison
Morrison was born in London and graduated from the Royal College of Art. He opened his first studio in 1986, the year he began a collaboration with Cappellini.
