Description
Overview
The Diorama armchair is a Moroso design by the Swedish design collective Front, dated 2026. The unusual height of the backrest redefines the scale of the object and gives it an almost architectural dimension: a soft wall that shapes space.
Construction
The backrest is a shell in Polimex® with flexible expanded polyurethane padding. The seat has a base in multi-layer wood and a Polimex® seat with flexible, differentiated-density expanded polyurethane padding. Polimex® is a composite for upholstered-furniture frames: expanded polystyrene is the main component, with smaller shares of structural polyurethane. Seat height is 41 cm and backrest height is 142 cm.

Story
A space to observe
Diorama is inspired by the concept of the diorama, a three-dimensional representation capable of evoking landscapes and depth. The tall backrest forms a threshold between intimacy and openness, and the gaze is invited to wander past the edges of the chair. Like a Turner painting, it suggests a horizon through light, atmosphere and perception without fixing one.
The closing chapter of Design by Nature
With Diorama, Front brings its long-term Design by Nature project to completion. The project observes the creativity inherent in natural phenomena, and here the gaze shifts from physical, biological and animal forces to the world around us. Sitting in the armchair means crossing the threshold, so that the observer becomes part of the scene.
