Diamond

Overview

Diamond is a series of square and rectangular fixed tables by Patricia Urquiola, dated 2004 on Molteni&C's datasheet. The sheet describes them as marked by the unique shape of the legs and a thin top. The table received the Red Dot Design Best of the Best award in 2005 and was featured in the 2005 ADI Index.

Construction

The structure is extruded aluminium painted in Molteni range colours. The legs are folded sheet aluminium, 1 mm thick, anodised or painted, with internal aluminium inserts and polyurethane foam and a non-slip plastic foot. Tops are toughened glass 8 mm thick, marble with a 2 mm aluminium reinforcement, a glossy fibreboard top or Ecotone slab.

Folds like origami

Molteni&C's page says the table takes its inspiration from the delicate precision of origami, with distinctive folds shaped into a sculptural expression. The legs are described as finely articulated, giving a sense of lightness against the geometric balance of the square or rectangular top.

Updated in 2025

The datasheet calls Diamond a classic of the Molteni&C collection, enhanced in 2025 with new finishes: a glossy finish is now offered on the top as well, and new Ecotone tops, a mineral agglomerate with recycled components, complete the series.
