Outdoor edition
Molteni&C presents D.154.2 Outdoor as a 2022 reinterpretation of the armchair Gio Ponti designed in 1954 for Villa Planchart in Caracas. The outdoor model retains the wrap-around composition while changing its construction for exterior use.
Outdoor construction
The shell combines an external layer of high-density polyurethane resin with an internal structure of steel tubes and profiles. Flexible polyurethane padding and the seat cushion are wrapped in waterproof polyester fibre described by Molteni&C as fully recyclable. Painted stainless-steel feet use plastic ferrules, while a separate waterproof cover is made from polyester.
Published data
The drawing prints 120, 81 and 74 cm as the main values; their axes are not labelled. A further vertical value of 41 cm is shown but is not assigned here.
Geschichte
From Caracas to an outdoor edition
The original D.154.2 was conceived for the Planchart residence during the 1953–57 project, with Molteni&C dating that design to 1954. The manufacturer distinguishes the present piece as an outdoor reworking rather than simply carrying the historical year forward.
A separate 2022 design record
Molteni&C dates D.154.2 Outdoor to 2022. That date belongs to the outdoor reinterpretation, while 1954 remains the year attached to Ponti's indoor antecedent.
