Coupe Bed

Overview

The Coupé bed is a 2019 design by GamFratesi for Poltrona Frau. The name pays homage to the padded elegance of great sports cars, and the clean aerodynamic lines are upholstered by hand in Pelle Frau leather. The page selects the king-size version, for a 193 x 203 cm mattress, and gives the SKU 564727.

Construction

The headboard structure is solid beech, birch plywood and hardboard infill with a light polyurethane foam padding. A horizontal cushion of polyurethane foam and polyester wadding is fixed to it with a velcro strip and two plates. The base sides are blockboard and the footboard is poplar plywood, both lightly padded. The feet are cylindrical aluminium, black painted, Ø 50 mm, with gunmetal grey steel feet as an option.

A bed named after sports cars

GamFratesi designed the Coupé bed for Poltrona Frau, and the name pays homage to the classic padded elegance of the great sports cars. The aerodynamic lines are upholstered by hand in soft Pelle Frau leather and enclose an intimate and comfortable space designed for two.

Headboard and frame

The page puts attention on the relationship between the headboard and the bed frame, two distinct geometric forms that keep their individuality and meet in a balance of power and subtlety. It describes the horizontal cushion, in removable fabric or leather and embroidered in the De Luxe version, as part of the headboard, and the slender metal feet as adding lightness to the structure.
