Coronado sofa
B&B Italia dates Coronado to 1966 and credits Afra and Tobia Scarpa. The sofa combines an iron frame with cold-moulded polyurethane technology introduced by the manufacturer to the furnishing sector. Its back uses harmonic-steel bands as a suspension system.
CCB210 construction
The CCB210 technical drawing gives an overall width of 211 cm, a depth of 93 cm and a height of 78 cm. The official sheet specifies tubular steel and steel profiles inside, flexible cold-shaped polyurethane foam around the frame, shaped polyurethane at different densities for the seat and armrest cushions, and a fabric or leather cover.
Story
A foundation project
B&B Italia describes Coronado as a foundation project in Afra and Tobia Scarpa's research. Four distinct structural pieces are held together with two screws, separating production processes and allowing disassembled parts to be stored and shipped.
From period furniture to modernity
The company positions its proportions and anti-traditional image between period furniture and the growing demand for modernity. Coronado remains in production as a sofa alongside related seating pieces.
