Overview
The Cornaro Sofa was designed by Carlo Scarpa in 1973 and is produced by Cassina. Cassina describes its material and structural contrasts: a geometrically austere base embraces the soft seat, and padded elements form the backrest, seat and armrests.
Construction
- Structure: solid beech with glossy lacquer finish, or solid ash with open-pore matte lacquer finish.
- Laces: exposed thin black saddle leather, contained inside a grommet that connects the backrest to the structure.
- Padding: recycled PET fibre and polyurethane elements, including CIRCULARREFOAM.
- Upholstery: removable, in the fabrics shown on the price list.
Specifications
- 220 x 97 x 66 cm (two-seat sofa, code W08 LO 02 TO 02).
Story
A 1973 design with updated proportions
Cassina credits the Cornaro to Carlo Scarpa in 1973. The sofa's proportions have since been updated, increasing height and depth, through research work carried out in close collaboration with Tobia Scarpa.
Detail of the laces
Cassina highlights the exposed thin black saddle leather laces and the grommet developed to simplify connecting the backrest to the wooden structure.
