Overview
Compass System is a modular system of interchangeable components for hospital and outpatient environments, designed by Gianfranco Zaccai. It shapes patient rooms, exam rooms and caregiver work areas while keeping the footprint compact.
Construction
A flexible rail system carries the components, and tiles attach to the rails as a finished cover. Tiles, storage, surfaces and display shelves come in Durawrap or 3D laminate, with flex, arc or box pulls. Utilities can be plumbed or pre-wired, stubbed out, or chased from the ceiling.

Story
Designed with change in mind
Compass was introduced by Herman Miller in 2010 for patient rooms, designed by Gianfranco Zaccai and a team at Continuum. It was conceived for facilities that were not designed to adapt, with interchangeable components that can be assembled, removed, rearranged and refreshed without changes to the infrastructure.
Patient and caregiver
The system pairs patient-centered storage and accessories with accessible caregiver cabinets. Its components do not touch the floor, which opens the floor area for cleaning.
