The CH44 Lounge Chair is a 1965 design by Hans J. Wegner, made by Carl Hansen & Søn in FSC™ Mix-certified oak, soap with a natural paper cord seat. The manufacturer calls it simplicity perfected.

Construction
The chair is crafted from solid wood. The defined joints between front legs and armrests are named as a Wegner trait, the armrests slope upwards to the rear legs and become more slender, and grooves on top of the rear legs hold an optional back cushion. Seat and backrest cushions and the low CH53 footstool are offered with it.

Story
Shaker Principles
Carl Hansen & Søn says the simplicity of the CH44 was inspired by the principles of American Shaker furniture, which also inspired Wegner's closely related CH46 and CH47 chairs.
