Description

Overview

Hans J. Wegner designed the CH337 in 1962. Its basic form is meant for four people, and with insert leaves the seating can grow to eight.

Construction

  • Top: elliptical solid wood top with cross grain, so the joint between boards is hard to see
  • Rails: set at an angle, tallest where they meet the legs and lower where leg room is needed
  • Legs: tapered
  • Wood: FSC™ Mix-certified oak, soap or oil, or mahogany; the 140 x 115 cm walnut version is listed with oil

Specifications

  • 140 x 115 cm, H 72 cm
  • Prepared for 2 leaves; the CH337I insert leaf is sold separately

Story

A smaller table first

The page describes the CH337 as the smaller dining table that Wegner designed in 1962 and as a starting point for a smaller family, one that can easily be extended.

Shape and support

Carl Hansen & Søn names the elliptical top and the tapered legs as the defining features. The harmonious shape of the solid top is called one of the most eye-catching features, and the angled rails are described as placed to support and control the wood.
