Description

Overview

Capri Base is the new edition of Minotti's Capri armchair, in the 2023 Collection. A design study based on subtraction gives a sculptural form emptied inside into a soft curved shell with a goose-down seat cushion, resting on a square Pewter-coloured metal base. Ottomans in two sizes complete it.

Construction

  • Structure: metal coated in flame-resistant polyurethane foam, quilted polyester fibre over hypoallergenic white cotton
  • Cushion: channelled goose down (Assopiuma Gold Label), foam insert
  • Covers: exposed zippers on the sides of the front, removable in fabric or leather
  • Base: perimeter frame in 40 x 15 mm rectangular metal tube, polished Pewter

Specifications

  • Armchair: 98 cm wide, 90 cm deep, 70 cm largest vertical value (unlabelled on the drawing)
  • Ottomans Ø 82 and 62 cm

Story

A design study based on subtraction

Minotti presents Capri Base as the new edition of its iconic Capri armchair, designed by Gordon Guillaumier. The page calls it the result of a design study based on subtraction: a sculptural form emptied inside to make a soft, curved shell.

Zips as detail

The side zips on the front serve both as decoration and to make the cover removable, a tailoring detail that, in Minotti's words, helps make the armchair a timeless icon.
