Overview
Canvas Vista is a system of desks in Herman Miller's Canvas Office Landscape that trims workstation size, designed by Joey Ruiter and introduced in 2018.
Construction
An aluminum chase with three tracks on top and two below carries power, data and cable management and holds screens, T-lights and Ubi work tools. A-legs support it, and two-sided storage fits beneath.
Specifications
The chase is 48 to 96 in wide, 6 in deep and 26 1/2 in overall height above the finished floor.
Story
A smaller footprint
Herman Miller asked Joey Ruiter for a workstation that fit a compressed footprint without compromising people's experience or reverting to benching. He tuned the design for a year, aiming for nothing that felt like filler.
The view from the desk
The name Vista comes from Ruiter's consideration of the view from the workstation. Early arches and doorways were replaced by open-frame screens and a T-shaped light that imply boundary without a literal opening.
