Description

Two backrest heights

Canasta ’13 is Patricia Urquiola’s 2013 update to the Canasta seating idea. The armchair is documented in low- and high-back forms, both with a 98 cm width. Its lighter interlacing distinguishes this version and allows light to pass through the surrounding structure.

Outdoor construction

The frame uses aluminium or steel with polyester powder coating, wrapped in polyethylene fibre. Shaped polyurethane forms the seat cushion beneath a water-repellent polyester-fibre cover, while the back cushion is polyester fibre. A one-sided PU-coated PES protective cloth is specified alongside the limited-category fabric cover.

CNC98PA dimensions

The high-back drawing measures 98 × 78 × 123 cm, with a labelled seat height of 38 cm.

Story

A new expression for Canasta

B&B Italia describes Canasta ’13 as a family that retains the recognisable Canasta concept while adopting a lighter appearance for outdoor surroundings. Patricia Urquiola applied the revised open interlacing across armchairs, sofas and small tables, with the chair offered in two backrest heights.

Light passing through the structure

The defining change is the mélange polyethylene yarn woven with wider visual openness than a solid shell. This treatment lets light pass through the high or low enclosure, while separate cushions provide the seating surface within the woven frame.
