CNC226B outdoor sofa

Canasta '13 is a 2013 outdoor seating design by Patricia Urquiola for B&B Italia. The CNC226B sofa places its cushions within an open woven surround. Its official drawing gives 229 × 106 × 89 cm.

Structure and cushioning

The range uses an aluminium or steel frame protected by polyester powder paint, with polyethylene fibre forming the interlacing. For CNC190B and CNC226B, the shaped-polyurethane seat cushion is wrapped in water-repellent polyester fibre with heat-sealed ribbon. The back cushions use polyester fibre with a water-repellent cover.

Outdoor variations

The same product page also presents a circular sofa with a 360-degree swivel base. A foldable hood is available for that configuration and is stated to reduce passing sunrays by up to 92 percent.

A new Canasta expression

B&B Italia describes Canasta '13 as retaining the recognised Canasta idea while changing its appearance for an external setting. The interlacing is opened so that light can pass through the woven surround, and the line includes both sofas and armchairs.

Patricia Urquiola and the 2013 edition

The official page and product sheet credit Patricia Urquiola and date this edition to 2013. The rectangular sofa and the oversized circular configuration use the same open-weave vocabulary while supporting distinct seating arrangements.
