Description
Overview
The Bubble sofa was designed by Sacha Lakic for Roche Bobois; the company's Virtual Museum lists the Bubble Sofa under 2014. Roche Bobois describes the Bubble collection as a balance between innovation, function and emotion, inspired by natural and mineral forms and entirely handcrafted, with a design that required the development of specific stretch fabrics fitting its round shapes. It calls Bubble more than a sofa, a sculpture that transforms a space into a place of emotion, available in straight and curved versions, and an iconic model of its collections.
Construction
According to the technical sheet, the structure is FSC Mix certified wood (solid fir, pine plywood, engineered composite wood, CARB) with elastic strap suspension. Seat and back cushions are bi-density polyurethane foam (35soft-22 kg/m³), and the base is solid beech with a Wenge-coloured varnish stain finish. The sheet notes European manufacture ("Made in Europe"), that the sofa is entirely padded, and that only eight fabric ranges are possible: Bamboo, Orsetto Flex, Passion, Signature, Smile Flex, Techno 2D, Techno 3D and Techno 4D.

Fabrics made for the shape
Roche Bobois's magazine article says the design required specific stretch fabrics to envelop the rounded shape. Its examples are the original Techno 3D (honeycomb structure), Orsetto (bouclette, soft yet textured) and the newer Passion (plush, teddy-style feel). The article is dated May 2026.
