Description

Overview

Bell Lamp is a pendant lamp by Andreas Lund & Jacob Rudbeck for Normann Copenhagen (2012). Its shade takes the iconic shape of a bell; the expression is robust and the form simple, with an industrial yet friendly look suited to homes and professional environments.

Construction

The shade is powder-coated aluminium with a matt surface that gives the impression of having been cast, and a white inner side that reflects the light downwards in a cone. A rubber band detail permanently joins the textile cord and shade at the top, accentuating the meeting point instead of hiding it.

Specifications

  • Sizes: X-Small H 23 × Ø 22 cm, Small H 37 × Ø 35 cm, Medium H 44 × Ø 42 cm, Large H 57 × Ø 55 cm (3.4 kg)

  • 4 m textile cord and canopy (H 7.7 × Ø 9 cm) included

Story

The shape of a bell

Andreas Lund and Jacob Rudbeck took their starting point in the iconic shape of a bell. The rounded silhouette and matt surface make the lamp look as if it had been cast, while the white interior turns it into a practical directional light.

Detail as expression

The designers paid special attention to the point where cord and lamp meet. Instead of hiding it, they accentuated it with a soft rubber band against the smooth aluminium, a discreet play of materials that gives the design its character. In their words, they want to create "everyday objects that have personality without being loud".
