Description
Overview
Babila 2700 is the chair version made entirely of wood in Pedrali's Babila collection, designed by Odo Fioravanti. Pedrali says the collection was born in 2013 with this chair, and Fioravanti's studio credits it to Pedrali in the same year. Pedrali's product page lists the areas hospitality, workspace & corporate and residential, and describes it as a chair with an ash plywood shell in variable thickness and solid ash wood legs.
Construction
According to Fioravanti's studio, the chair was designed starting from the variable-thickness plywood technique, which gives the shell different thicknesses at different points and so a variable mechanical resistance. The lower part is thicker to house the legs and has a chamfer on its lower edge; the backrest tapers upwards to a minimum thickness of six millimetres. The legs are solid ash, and the technical sheet notes that the wooden parts have jointed components. Pedrali specifies a scratch-resistant water-based coating with a five-gloss matt surface, plus lacquer that leaves the grain visible. Felt feet with an interchangeable insert (type "15") are listed for delicate floors.

Story
A wooden chair from variable-thickness plywood
Fioravanti's studio says the Babila wooden chair was designed starting from the variable-thickness plywood technique, with a thicker lower part that houses the legs and a backrest that tapers to six millimetres for elasticity and comfort. The studio adds that the legs and the shape of the backrest evoke the tradition of handmade wooden chairs, updating it.
The first chair of the collection
Pedrali's 2023 article on ten years of Babila says the collection was born in 2013 with the chair version entirely made of wood, and has since expanded with armchairs and stools in different materials and finishes.
