Description

Overview

Nemschoff Ava Recliner, designed by David Ritch and Mark Saffell, is an inviting seating option for patient areas. Comfortable, compact and mobile, it comes in an Arcade back or a Wingback design, both with a subtle residential character.

Construction

A high-strength metal structure carries spring seat construction and replaceable components. The back reclines infinitely from upright to reverse, the footrest works independently, and the arms pivot up and out of the way. It rolls on 5 in dual-wheel swivel casters with front locking.

Specifications

30.75 x 35 x 47.75 in (W x D x H, Arcade Back, 917-66A).

Story

Rethinking the recliner

David Ritch and Mark Saffell of 5d studio were asked by Herman Miller and Nemschoff to design a new healthcare recliner. They moved the reclining mechanism off the arms and onto an ottoman or centre cushion, which freed the arms to flip up for side transfer and gave Ava its signature look.

Scale and mobility

Ava is designed to move about in close quarters, with a minimal footprint and clear visual cues for braking and steering. Red and green indicators on the foot pedals show caregivers when the wheels are locked or unlocked.
