Description
Overview
Alys, a bed by Gabriele & Oscar Buratti, has a headboard made from a sheet of leather pinched in two places at the base, which gives the headboard its movement and natural inclination, and thin perimeter strips are marked by a lengthwise seam.
Construction
Inside, the frame is built from tubular steel and steel profiles, and flexible polyurethane foam, cold shaped, pads it. Anodized aluminium extrusions make up the sides, and the slatted base pairs tubular steel with multi-layered wood slats. Two sets of feet come with the bed, so the frame sits at one of two heights.

Story
A sheet of leather, pinched twice
The headboard of Alys starts as one sheet of leather that is pinched in two places at the base. Here, the manufacturer says, the movement and natural inclination of the headboard originate. The result is a welcoming and protective shape with thin perimeter strips marked by a lengthwise seam.
One frame, two heights
The bed is supplied with two sets of feet, so the frame can be placed at either of two heights. Gabriele and Oscar Buratti, who form the architecture and design studio Buratti Architetti, designed it in 2013.
