Description

Overview

Alvar is an armchair collection by Antonio Citterio for B&B Italia. The official page presents two versions: a low-back armchair and a high-back armchair. Both use a timber frame, a woven backrest and a padded seat.

Construction

The frame is solid wood. The seat cushion uses shaped polyurethane and bio-polyester flake. The backrest is made with woven cork cord, while the ferrules use plastic material and a steel screw. The cover is available in fabric or leather.

Specifications

The AV67PB drawing gives W 67 x D 75 x H 78 cm for the low-back version. The AV67PA drawing gives W 67 x D 90 x H 92 cm for the high-back version. The drawing also prints an unlabelled 37 cm vertical value.

Story

Wood as a tradition

B&B Italia describes Alvar as a seating collection born from a reflection on wood, treating it as both construction material and tradition. The project connects memory with innovation: the curved armrest recalls the Chiavarina chair while the woodworking is enabled by contemporary technology.

A light woven back

The backrest uses a deliberately sparse weave of cork cord. Together with the slatted frame and padded seat, this creates a chair that balances a visible structure with everyday comfort. The low- and high-back versions retain the same language while offering different proportions.
