Description
Overview
The 808 is a lounge chair by the Munich design studio Formstelle, dated 2015 on Thonet's product page. Thonet presents it as a lounge chair that combines maximum comfort with numerous possibilities for individualisation. The page lists the 808 H ottoman, the 808 PA neck pillow and the compact lounge chair 809 as related pieces.
Construction
Thonet describes a contemporary reinterpretation of the classic wing chair: an outer shell with an inner cushioned core and a soft wave effect in the upholstery. According to the brochure, a mechanism hidden inside the chair adjusts seat and backrest inclination continuously, up to a fully reclined position. The brochure names a frame of flat steel in stainless steel design, with an alternative of flat steel in RAL 9005 black.

Story
A wing chair reinterpreted
Thonet's text sets the 808 between two ideas: a protective shell and an inviting openness, which together create what it calls a place of retreat and calm. The shape is described as an elegant cocoon that embraces the person sitting in it, and Thonet adds that the inner cushioned core stands in contrast to the angularity of the outer shell.

The brochure says the designers developed a distinct fabric for the lounge chair 808 together with the German textile manufacturer Rohi: Soul, available in thirteen colours.
