Description
Overview
The 1966-25 Lounge Chair is Richard Schultz's low outdoor armchair for Knoll. Introduced in 1966, it uses an open sling seat and back within a rectilinear aluminium frame.
Outdoor construction
Welded cast and extruded aluminium receives a weather-resistant powder coat. Vinyl-coated polyester mesh forms the seat and back; solid-vinyl straps secure the sling. Supports and connectors are stainless steel.

Story
A request for salt-air durability
Florence Knoll asked Schultz for outdoor furniture that could withstand the conditions at her Florida home. He developed an aluminium group, refining cast parts and concealed sling connectors before its 1966 introduction.
A modern outdoor chair
The lounge chair avoids the decorative language common to earlier metal garden furniture. Its straight frame and suspended mesh establish the direct construction that defines this particular seat.
