Biography

Background

Ulrik Nordentoft (born 1974) works with product and interior design and has been part of the Danish design scene for almost two decades. He started his own design studio in 1997 and finished his studies at the Danish Design School in 2000. He has since been behind several new design classics for established Danish design companies, and his interiors for restaurants and retail are described as pioneering.

Signature Style

His design philosophy is pragmatic, honest and hands-on, with a clean, minimalistic language. He balances aesthetics and functionality, lets the nature and quality of the material shape form and usability, and aims for objects with a clear sense of timelessness. In interiors the emphasis is on materials and ambiance.

Notable Works

With Sebastian Holmbäck he designed the Shelter, Lighthouse and Peeler products for Normann Copenhagen (2013), the Emma series for Stelton, Nam Nam furniture for 8000C and Cafu for Georg Jensen. On his own he designed the Alma cutlery for Stilleben (2022), the Hottie vacuum jug for Rig-Tig (2020) and the Gine lamp series for Broste (2020).

Legacy

The partnership with Holmbäck (2008 to 2015) brought the top-tier Red Dot prize, Best of the Best. Since 2006 he has also run an interior design partnership with Christina Meyer Bengtsson, covering Meyer's bakeries, delis, cooking schools and restaurants.
