Biography
Background
Tove Kindt-Larsen (1906–1994) and Edvard Kindt-Larsen (1901–1982) were husband and wife and, per Audo Copenhagen, front figures in Danish furniture design between 1930 and 1960. Edvard started as an architect under Kaare Klint at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts; Tove attended the Academy without graduating, and the two married in 1937.
Signature Style
They favoured individual, adaptable pieces that could be curated by style, use and mood over the traditional furniture set. Audo says Tove's furniture pairs a fine sense of quality with a style that followed the changing tastes of the period.
Notable Works
- Pagode Sofa (first presented 1956)
- Fireplace Chair (1939), Pagaj Chair (1960) and Prisma Sofa (1964), as named by GUBI
- Tove's textile designs and pioneering rattan furniture
Legacy
Edvard organised the Snedkerlauget (Carpenters' Guild) exhibitions from 1943 to 1966 and received the Eckersberg Medal in 1949. A shared design studio opened in 1945.
