Biography

Background

Toan Nguyen was born in Paris in 1969 and graduated from the ENSCI (Paris) in 1995, with a diploma on detail in architecture and technology in the public arena. He trained in Barcelona with Alberto Lievore and moved to Milan in 1996.

Signature Style

For Nguyen, design is a discipline bound up with the object in the traditional sense: priority goes to physical relationships with users, to intelligible forms and to optimised manufacturing, without neglecting the sensuality of materials or the emotional impact of the object.

Notable Works

With Antonio Citterio he co-signed more than forty products for companies including Axor-Hansgrohe, B&B Italia, Flos, Iittala, Kartell, Technogym and Vitra. Kartell credits the Spoon stool to Antonio Citterio with Toan Nguyen. Under his own name he designed the Bellows stool and side table for Walter Knoll, the Antero sanitary line and Ino for Laufen, Algorithm for Vibia and the Cocoon sofa for Fendi Casa.

Legacy

Since founding his Milan studio he has collected awards that include Red Dot Awards in 2010 and 2012, the Interior Innovation Award in 2011 and the Archiproducts Design Award's first prize in 2016.
