Skagerak Design

Background

Skagerak Design is the designer credit that Fritz Hansen prints on some Skagerak collection products, among them the Director's Chair and the Columbus Sunbed. The Skagerak Collection itself consists of 43 product series across indoor and outdoor furniture and accessories, with more than 200 products.

Signature Style

The collection's design language originates from Danish functionalism and woodcraft traditions in outdoor furniture, with a Nordic connection between nature and design. Both credited pieces are made of untreated solid teak, and all outdoor teak furniture in the collection is 100% FSC-certified.

Notable Works

The Director's Chair is a Nordic interpretation of the chair from film sets, in teak with brass fittings and a canvas seat, and it folds. The Columbus Sunbed belongs to the Columbus Series, which takes its design cues from traditional American-style garden chairs pared back to a simpler Scandinavian expression with slatted seats and visible fittings; the sunbed has an adjustable backrest and back wheels.

Legacy

Both pieces are part of the Skagerak Collection, which is co-created with architects and designers; 34 Danish and international designers collaborate on it.
