Biography
Background
Quaglio Simonelli arose from the meeting of Andrea Quaglio (born 1965) and Manuela Simonelli (born 1971), designers who graduated from the Università del Progetto in Reggio Emilia, Italy. After their 1994 debut alongside Philippe Starck, with whom they collaborated for two years, they founded their own design studio.
Signature Style
The pair see diversification as a source of creative richness. Their field spans technical products, furniture and lighting, as well as identities and designs for cosmetics brands, where industrial logic alternates with a more craftsmanlike approach.
Notable Works
Clients span food (Barilla), office concepts (Mandarina Duck), lights (Artemide and Ligne Roset), bottles (L'Oréal), seats (Amura, Infiniti and Debi), decorative objects (Ichendorf) and technological products (Thomson, Acoustic Research, Alessi, TCL and My Fox). Their work for Ligne Roset includes the Unbeaumatin indoor chair.
Legacy
Their awards include the Red Dot Product Design Award, the IF Product Design Award, the CES Innovation Award, the HKDA Award, the Kapok Prize, the Étoile de l'Observeur and the Janus de l'Industrie. Several of their products are part of the collection of the Fonds national d'art contemporain in Paris.
