Biography
Background
Paolo Deganello is an Italian architect, interior designer and professor who lives and works in Milan. Cassina's designer page says he was born at Este, Padua, in 1940 and graduated in architecture at Florence in 1966. From 1963 to 1974 he worked in town planning for the council of Calenzano, near Florence.
Signature Style
In 1966 he founded the studio Archizoom Associates with Andrea Branzi, Gilberto Corretti and Massimo Morozzi. ESAD, the art and design school where he taught, says the studio belonged to the radical design movement in Italy and designed anti-design furniture. Cassina describes his projects as always highly individual and clearly in the radical mould.
Notable Works
- Aeo armchair for Cassina, 1973, described by Cassina as the last product of the Archizoom group and as particularly famous among his Cassina designs.
- Work shown in Italy: The New Domestic Landscape, the 1972 exhibition organised by MoMA in New York.
Legacy
Deganello has lectured at several universities, written for specialist periodicals and, according to Cassina, been a lecturer in planning at the ISIA of Florence since 1991. His work up to 2008 is collected in the book As Razões do Meu Projecto Radical (ESAD, 2009).
