Biography

Background

Glen Oliver Löw, whom Kartell credits as Oliver Löw, studied industrial design in Wuppertal and design at Domus Academy in Milan, finishing in 1985 and 1986 respectively according to the designer's own site. He moved to Milan, where he later became a partner of Antonio Citterio & Partners.

Signature Style

The sources describe two working modes rather than a style: a partnership with Antonio Citterio, begun in 1987, and an independent studio whose clients include Steelcase, Thonet and Knoll. Kartell's Museo timeline places the pair's debut for the company in 1991, with trolleys for the home.

Notable Works

For Kartell, the Battista and Gastone trolleys, the OXO trolleys for PCs and TVs and the Mobil drawer units, which received the 1994 Compasso d'Oro. For Steelcase, the Think chair; for Knoll, the Ollo task chair.

Legacy

IDSA lists him as an IDEA juror in 2013. Battista and Mobil are shown in MoMA's collection display in New York.
