Marco Dessí

Background

Marco Dessí was born in 1976 in Merano and lives and works in Vienna. Thonet's designer page says he trained as an industrial designer at Vienna's University of Applied Arts and has run his own design studio since 2007, realising projects with well-known Austrian manufacturers as well as international producers.

Signature Style

Thonet describes Dessí's approach as practical and cooperative, with design understood as an interactive process. Self-initiated projects let him experiment with materials and challenge processes that are later applied to commercial work. In commissioned work he first examines the company, its production methods and their potential. The studio is not fixed on a specific style, preferred material or uniform formula; it treats design as a craft in which a deep understanding of materials and processes forms the design parameters.

Notable Works

For Thonet he designed the 520 upholstered wooden chair family, which Thonet's page dates 2020: the 520 P, the 520 PF with armrests and, in the extension of the range, the 521 swivel chairs.
