Background

Geckeler Michels is the Berlin design studio of David Geckeler and Frank Michels, set up in 2013. The studio works on furniture, lighting, products and spaces. Its practice is research-led: it carries out its own in-house studies, provides creative direction and product collections for clients, and also produces editions and one-offs.

Signature Style

The duo looks at how products work around human habits, with an eye on how uses and market demands keep changing. They combine the history of design with contemporary technologies and digital design methods. Their functionalist approach is usually paired with an intriguing detail or logic, which gives a product a lasting narrative.

Notable Works

For Karimoku New Standard they designed the Panorama chairs (2018), the Spectrum table system (2020), NASHI desk accessories (2021) and the Fence sofa (2022). Other work listed by the studio includes ACME and Verve for Fredericia, BIAS for Crassevig, DS-760 and DS-840 for de Sede, F8 for Tecta, Palco for Util, WARP for Arkos and MAP for Lodes.

Legacy
