Biography
Background
Fred Rigby grew up in Dorset, where the English countryside meets limestone headlands, and that landscape still inspires his work. He studied product and furniture design at Kingston University in London and went on to work with a range of designers and artists, building knowledge of processes that include fibreglass casting and CNC technologies. He then developed his own craft from an eponymous studio in London.
Signature Style
His furniture is described as inspired by nature, with organic, sculptural forms that bring a sense of calm and softness into the home. The designs evolved through making furniture for both residential and commercial interior projects, and INHERIT describes the designs as intentionally adaptable in proportions, finishes and upholstery.
Notable Works
Rigby designed the Eclipse Desk for Audo Copenhagen, available in 2 colours. ELLE Decoration named him one of ten British designers to know right now. The collection he originally designed is now offered by INHERIT, whose range includes the Pebble Sofa, the Raindrop coffee tables, the Cove Armchair and the Large Kidney Desk.
Legacy
Fred Rigby Studio has evolved into INHERIT, which makes collectible furniture to order and handcrafts it in England. Enquiries about earlier Fred Rigby Studio orders are handled at orders@fredrigby.com.
