Biography
Background
Flemming Lassen (23 February 1902 in Copenhagen - 18 February 1984 in Hellerup) was a Danish architect and designer, the brother of the architect Mogens Lassen. Wikipedia says he trained as a mason, finished at the Technical School and worked in several architecture offices before setting up with Arne Jacobsen; with Jacobsen he won the 1929 competition for the "House of the Future". Lex and Danish Wikipedia date his own office to 1939.
Signature Style
Lex writes that in 1929 he helped introduce international modernism to Denmark, gave it a regional character in the 1940s, and in the 1970s worked in a powerful, cubic idiom with raw exteriors. English Wikipedia says his furniture of the 1930s and early 1940s, with unconventional curved forms, contributed to Danish modern design, and that he also designed lamps and silverware.
Notable Works
- Fremtidens Hus (House of the Future), Forum, Copenhagen, 1929, with Arne Jacobsen
- Søllerød Town Hall (now Rudersdal Town Hall), with Arne Jacobsen, completed 1942
- Nyborg Library, with Erik Møller, 1938-40

Legacy
He received the Eckersberg Medal in 1940 with Erik Møller for the Nyborg library and taught at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts' school of architecture from 1951 to 1963. From 1970 he designed libraries with his son Per Lassen.
