Biography

Background

Brad Ascalon is an American designer born in 1977. A family background in sculpture, industrial design and art introduced him early to craftsmanship and materials. He earned a master's degree in Industrial Design from Pratt Institute in 2005 and opened his New York studio in 2006.

Approach

Ascalon describes his method as reductive. He seeks uncomplicated, rational designs that balance form, function and concept, with longevity and craftsmanship as central concerns.

Practice

His studio works across contract, hospitality and residential furniture, as well as lighting, packaging and consumer products. Carl Hansen & Søn also notes exhibitions in Europe, Asia, Russia and the United States.

Carl Hansen & Søn

Ascalon's collaboration with the manufacturer produced the Preludia Series of tables and chairs, described as combining a clean expression with extensive customisation.
